Oh dear, I have neglected him, haven't I? Well, here it is, since Dec. 1:
Rt'd a friend talking about Men in Black; watched the Monsters are Due on Maple Street episode of the Twilight Zone; shared a link about radiation in Fallujah that has since gone defunct; visited San Francisco for Slumberland Records birthday and played "twee pop covers" with Devon Williams at Amnesia (bar) and later was keen to get home to hide under his covers and also grumpy about smashing sticks as they are $9 a pair (!); took in a Part Time Punks/ The Mantles/Catwalk show; rt'd a link to the Syd Barrett coloring book (apparently part of a "doomed poet" series that includes Ian Curtis from Joy Division, all I can say is ERGH);
noted that the LA City Council building reminded him of his high school, with holiday decor, worn out '70s interior, ladies with big hair and crazy sweaters and broken elevators; commented on MC and Visa wikileaks-related shenanigans; hoped to some day make a record as timeless as Marquee Moon by Television; witnessed Abe Vigoda (band, not dude) soundchecking at a chi-chi (fancy) party (he spelled it sheeshee); noted that at a certain point it's better to just go home and watch bad movies, which as a bonus are free (I agree, Nick Murray!);
was excited that the LA Downtown Women's center was getting a new home; played FYFest with Devon Williams and a bunch of other bands; posted a link to a video of the Primitives singing Crash in 1988; then Jon Walker sprung a hiatus announcement on him & he needed a drink; noted he had played 112 shows in the course of the year and that was why he couldn't remember anyone's name; noted that he did not enjoy playing FYFest as it felt like being 13 and trying to have fun with parental supervision (ouch!);
was unsurprised that the (minneapolis) Metrodome roof collapsed; wondered what would have happened if George Van Tassel would have finished the Integratron; The Black Apples, his other band, put out as new record, and he was excited that Amoeba Records made them their own divider (awwwww); posted a link to Yogi Bear Parody: "Booboo Kills Yogi" ending (YouTube); worked Tame Impala show and appreciated the band; shared a link to a story about a LA cat hoarder (:(((); got things done; was grumpy about someone leaving sprinklers on during five days of rain; used rain as grounds to stay in and watch more Twilight Zone and terrible movies;
was irritated by Facebook's check-in function because he doesn't need to know where everyone is all of the time; got soaked running to a Fool's Gold show; was excited that the Black Apples were mentioned in the LA Records Winter Solstice compilation; went (home?) to Minnesota for Christmas, quoted Dazed and Confused and was grumpy about Christmas; saw a bunch of movies (Black Swan, True Grit, Willow );
shared link to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace Review (Part 1 of 7) (YouTube; MAY BE TRIGGERY FOR SELFHARM) with a comment about it being a funny Avatar review; shared a link to the medical benefits of salvia (preventing depression); shared a link to a story about the way the temperature of the sun varies; decided, on New Year's Eve, that he'd like to play a house party, and then also announced it was a bad night to hit the grocery store (mmmm, I bet);
JANUARY
announced he was packing things up to move; was distressed by birds falling out of the sky; overheard someone talking about meeting NEW ex-girlfriends; was cynical about MSNBC's role in the Ted Williams (golden voice) story; rt'd Aquadrunkard tweet about "Jesus Fever" by Kurt Vile; went to Cafe 50s; was grumpy about people calling a film with a budget between 100K and 5M "indie"; was excited to be back in the studio, and to see Dogtooth (movie); noted that buying a car at public auction seemed like a sweet deal; noted more dead birds coming to California (original link now also dead); caught someone having a fake cell phone conversation;
announced he was playing at the LA Music Video Festival; was sad that Trish Keenan of Broadcast had passed, as they were his favorite band; was greatly distressed to be stuck in Santa Monica with Jersey Shore types; was excited about tacos and beer; had an idea for a music video and was keen to get behind the camera; was bored by the Golden Globes but consoled by massive pizza; The Black Apples booked shows in New Mexico and Colorado; noted the demise of KUSF, a college radio station in San Francisco that has apparently gone online only; was excited to see 2001 on a really, really big screen; was in the studio with Devon Williams;
shared a link to the story about the kid who scared of wolves with Creed; appreciated Destroyer's new album, Kaputt; various show promotional tweets including one in Claremont; rt'd a HarMarSuperstar joke; was grumpy about people relying on laptop speakers; was annoyed by U2 and their mansions; asked how to cut his own hair in the back;
FEBRUARY
allowed as he does not really dig The Monkees; told a fan The Young Veins aren't playing shows right now but were all working on different projects; confirmed he had once knocked a fan's book away because he thought they were trying to give Ryan Ross a bible (?!); allowed that he thought "I'm Stakin' You" by Dante vs Zombie was a pretty good song, and seemed enthused about an Origami Vinyl event.
Phew. Goodness. Now here's hoping he'll share more about these "other projects" that the members of TYV are working on . . .
